Syracuse snaps skid with 4-1 win in Rochester

Syracuse, NY – The Syracuse Crunch snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 4-1 victory over the Rochester Americans tonight at the Blue Cross Arena.
 
Cedric Paquette scored twice and Kristers Gudlevskis stopped 21 of 22 shots to improve the Crunch to 18-20-2-5 overall and 11-11-2-2 away from the War Memorial. The Crunch hold a 4-0-0-0 record in the season series against the Amerks. The Crunch penalty-kill unit stopped two Amerk power-plays, while the Crunch man-advantage was unable to convert on its one opportunity.
 
Paquette opened the scoring with 2:54 to play in the second period. Paquette beat Rochester netminder Nathan Lieuwen with a high wrist shot on the glove side assisted by former Amerk Evan Rankin.
 
Brett Connolly extended the Crunch lead to 2-0 4:42 into the final frame. Connolly's shot from the left circle was assisted by Jon DiSalvatore. Rankin found Paquette at the right circle to extend the Crunch's lead to 3-0 6:14 into the third period. Paquette's goal was his team-leading 14th of the season.
 
Shortly after the Syracuse penalty-kill unit successfully killed a five-minute major penalty Rochester's Frederick Roy cut the Crunch lead to 3-1. Roy's shot from the blue line slipped past Gudlevskis, assisted by Mark Pysyk, at the 12:41 mark of the third period.
 
Syracuse defenseman Dmitry Korobov added an empty net goal, his first of the season, for the final margin of 4-1.
