Game Notes: 5/06/08 v. Toronto Marlies
Crunch Routed by Toronto in Game Three
Syracuse, N.Y. (May 6, 2008) - Save the brooms for another day.
The Syracuse Crunch will not be sweeping the Toronto Marlies in the North Division Finals thanks to an 8-2 loss Tuesday at the Onondaga County War Memorial in front of 5,011 raucous fans.
Syracuse still holds a 2-1 advantage with Game Four set for tomorrow night. Crunch goalie Karl Goehring lost his magic touch, allowing four goals over the first two periods.
Head coach Ross Yates pulled Goehring in favor of Adam Munro to start the third in an effort to light a fire under his team.
That move backfired when Munro allowed two goals in the first minute of the third.
Nate DiCasmirro scored for Syracuse in the first period and Joakim Lindstrom notched a goal in the third.
A fourth goal in the third by Toronto caused the Crunch frustration level to overflow as Zenon Konopka, Tom Sestito, Dan Smith and Derek Dorsett all had battles with the Marlies that sent most of them off the ice with game misconducts.
3-Stars—No. 1, John Mitchell (2 goals), No. 2, Jamie Sifers (1 goal, 2 assists), No.3, Jiri Tlusty (1 goal, 1 assist)
They Said It -
“It doesn’t matter how we lost. We lost and it’s unacceptable at home at this time of year. We’re disgusted with our efforts. We have to quickly regroup and be ready for tomorrow. If we play like we did tonight we’re not going to win hockey games. We have to have a better team effort and stop the little things that we were brutal at tonight that came back to bite us. We had a lot of pucks flipping around in the offensive zone and we didn’t finish our hits. We had a lot of turnovers in the neutral zone and it came back to haunt us. We had a good first 15 minutes and then went into a lull and once they scored we never recovered.” Zenon Konopka post-game comments.
“In the playoffs it doesn’t matter how you lose. We played bad and we have to fix what we did wrong. There is a lot of frustration when you get beat like that.” Derek Dorsett on third period fights.
“A loss is a loss. Whether you get pounded like we did or you lose a close one. It’s a seven-game series and we have to get ready for the next game and play hard. Losing the way we did wasn’t exactly the way I would have liked because it gives Toronto a lot of confidence. We all have to come out on the same page tomorrow. They kept pounding away and kept scoring and that was frustrating.” Marc Methot’s post-game comments.
