Game Notes: 3/19/08 v. Hamilton Bulldogs

Crunch Tighten the Leash on Bulldogs

Syracuse, NY (March 19, 2008) -
The Syracuse Crunch, in perhaps its biggest contest of the season, kept its late-season momentum in high gear with a hard fought 3-1 win over the Hamilton Bulldogs Wednesday at the Onondaga County War Memorial.

The win leaves the Crunch with a strangle hold on third place in the North Division with 78 points, nine ahead of the floundering Bulldogs.

It was the fourth straight win for the Crunch, who have at least a point in 12 straight games.

The Bulldogs hardly have any fight left, only a possible whimper, as they dropped a franchise-record seventh straight game that started March 2nd against Syracuse and was perpetuated by the Crunch last night.

Syracuse earned the win by getting another tenacious defensive effort and a pair of goals from an unlikely source, Trevor Frischmon. Frischmon netted just his fourth and fifth goals of the season as he popped in a Derek Dorsett rebound in the second period and added an insurance goal early in the third, ripping a shot into the short side from the top of the faceoff circle.

Clay Wilson once again found the back of the net with a power-play goal midway through the first period. Wilson has turned into a scoring machine of late with six points in his last three games with a plus/minus of plus-5 in that stretch.

Syracuse showed the Bulldogs that their bark was worse then their bite as Zenon Konopka battled Mathieu Biron and Dorsett took on Brett Engelhardt in the first period.

Biron did manage to keep Karl Goehring from recording his second shutout of the season with Hamilton's only goal at the six-minute mark of the second period. Goehring made 28 saves.

3-Stars, No. 1, Frischmon, No. 2, Wilson, No. 3, Sestito
