Game Notes: 1/24/08 v. Manitoba Moose
Crunch Frozen in Manitoba
Winnipeg, MB (January 24, 2008) – The Syracuse Crunch could not survive the bitter cold weather and three unanswered goals, as they were defeated 3-1 by the Manitoba Moose tonight in front of 6,370 fans at the MTS Center.
The Crunch looked to move into sole possession of second place in the North Division with a win Thursday night. Syracuse jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a power play at the 10:42 mark of the first period. Aaron Rome found Joakim Lindstrom at the bottom of the right circle and he hammered home a slap shot past Moose starter Drew MacIntyre.
Just eight seconds after the Crunch scored, they would put themselves in a short-handed situation when Syracuse’s Derek Dorsett, Marc Methot and Rome all took roughing penalties. Manitoba’s Mike Brown and Pierre-Cedric Labrie also took roughing minors on the play.
On the ensuing power play, Manitoba’s Brad Moran got the Moose on the board when he deflected a right point shot from Jimmy Sharrow that hit Crunch starting goaltender Adam Munro and squeaked over the line to tie the game 1-1. The Moose out-shot the Crunch 15-8 in the first frame.
The Crunch relinquished the lead just three and a half minutes into the second stanza. Alexandre Bolduc found Michael Grabner as he slipped behind the Syracuse defense. Graber’s shot beat Munro to give Manitoba a 2-1 advantage.
It appeared the Crunch tied the game with about five minutes left in the period when Clay Wilson stuffed in a rebound, but referee Francis Charron ruled no goal as he thought the net was knocked off its moorings before the puck went in the net.
Manitoba would take a 3-1 lead halfway through the third period. After dictating the play for the first ten minutes, the Moose finally cashed in when Alexandre Bolduc slipped one past Munro.
Syracuse could not mount any further offense and MacIntyre stopped 18 of the 19 shots he faced on the evening.
