The Syracuse Crunch and Onondaga County officials unveiled today the new state of the art video scoreboard that will make its debut on November 3 when the Crunch host the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 7:30 p.m. American Hockey League matchup.
The board was raised to the War Memorial rafters in a ribbon cutting ceremony today that was led by Onondaga County Executive Nick Pirro, Crunch President and CEO Howard Dolgon and Allen Foster, District Sales Manager for Verizon Wireless.
“Verizon Wireless is proud to be a sponsor of the Crunch, Syracuse’s hometown hockey team,” said Tracy Nolan, President, Upstate New York Region, Verizon Wireless. “We are equally excited to be the official title sponsor of Verizon Wireless Vision. Verizon Wireless Vision is an exciting addition to this historic building and we look forward to watching the Crunch light the scoreboard up all season long.”
“Our new Verizon Wireless scoreboard further demonstrates our strong partnership with Onondaga County and the many corporations who continue to put their support behind Syracuse Crunch hockey,” said Crunch President and CEO Howard Dolgon. “This will prove to be a tremendous addition to our game presentation and we look forward to giving our fans something they can enjoy to the fullest.”
“I am real happy that Onondaga County, the Syracuse Crunch and Verizon Wireless have been able to put together a team effort to make sure that Syracuse Crunch fans and other programs at the War Memorial have the benefit of this great technology,” said Nick Pirro, Onondaga County Executive.
The Verizon Wireless Vision system is only the third (Hartford & Louisville) video scoreboard in the American Hockey League. Verizon Wireless Vision will enable the Crunch to show replays of all the games action as well as fan interaction, movie clips and sponsor information.
The new video board is a Daktronics, Inc. ProStar VideoPlus Display System that features RGB LED Technology and Venus Control Systems. Verizon Wireless Vision also features Daktronics Vplay which is the digital video and audio record and playback system that will allow the Crunch to record video clips with audio and live video play through at 60 frames per second. The new video board also features a picture-in-picture display.
