Syracuse Signs Motzko, Leinweber and Hanchuck

Syracuse, NY, (Friday, April 4, 2003)

The Syracuse Crunch announced today that they signed right wing Joe Motzko and defensemen Chris Leinweber and Tyler Hanchuck to amateur try-out contracts.

Motzko, 23, appeared in 154 career games at St. Cloud State (Western Collegiate Hockey Association), recording 52 goals, 90 assists and 199 penalty minutes. A native of Bemidji, Minnesota, Motzko appeared in 38 games with St. Cloud State this season, recording 17 goals, 25 assists and 59 penalty minutes.

Leinweber, 21, appeared in 130 career games with University of North Dakota (WCHA), recording two goals, 18 assists and 66 penalty minutes. A native of Calgary Alberta, Leinweber appeared in 34 games this season with the University of North Dakota, recording one goal, three assists and 66 penalty minutes.

Hanchuck, 21, appeared in 294 career Ontario Hockey League games with Brampton, Barrie, and Sarnia, tallying six goals, 36 assists and 545 penalty minutes. Hanchuck recorded two goals, 12 assists and 143 penalty minutes in 50 games with Sarnia this season. A native of Saulte St. Marie, Ontario, Hanchuck was selected by Montreal in the third round, 79th overall, in the 2000 Entry Draft.

The Crunch travel to Rochester tonight for a 7:30 p.m. match-up. Crunch action can be heard on NewsRadio 570 WSYR with play-by-play announcer Bob McElligott. Syracuse returns home on Saturday, April 5 to host the Rochester Americans in a 5:30 p.m. match-up. Saturday night is WSEN Team Photo night.
