The Columbus Blue Jackets have recalled defenseman Duvie Westcott from the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League, club President, General Manager and Interim Head Coach Doug MacLean announced today. The club also assigned defenseman Derrick Walser to Syracuse and that the Crunch have signed left wing Lance Galbraith to a P.T.O.
Westcott has played 30 games with the Blue Jackets this season, registering five assists and 61 penalty minutes. The 25-year-old is joining the Jackets for his third stint this season. He recorded his first NHL assist on Dec. 12 vs. New Jersey and his first multiple point game with a pair of assists against Calgary Dec. 19. In 22 games with Syracuse, Westcott has recorded 1-10-11 and 54 penalty minutes.
Westcott played four games with the Jackets last season, registering a minus-two rating and two penalty minutes. In 68 games with Syracuse in 2001-02, the Winnipeg, Manitoba native recorded 4-29-33, a plus-three rating and 99 penalty minutes. Westcott was signed as a free agent on May 10, 2001 after two seasons at St. Cloud St. University, which included Second Team All-WCHA honors in 1999-2000.
Walser has recorded 4-13-17 in 49 games with the Jackets this season, including an assist in each of the last two games. While with the Crunch, Walser has collected 5-12- 17 in 23 games. He''ll be in the lineup tonight as the Crunch visit the Cleveland Barons.
Galbraith, 23, has appeared in four games with Dayton (ECHL), recording two goals, two assists and 18 penalty minutes. He also appeared in 48 games with Augusta (ECHL) with 9 goals, 14 assists and 240 penalty minutes.
