ANOTHER DARCHE PENALTY SHOT: Left wing Mathieu Darche became the first player in franchise history to score two penalty shot goals in a season, accomplishing the feat on Sunday, March 16 against goaltender Ryan Miller and the Rochester Americans. Darche’s goal last night went into the record book as a short-handed goal (Syracuse was short- handed when the penalty shot was awarded) while his first was recorded as a power play goal (January 24, 2003 – Robbie Tallas). Darche’s goal was the 13th penalty shot attempted by a Crunch player in club history and the fourth successful (in addition to Darche’s two, Tyson Nash, April 10, 1998 and Reggie Savage, April 1, 2001 scored for Syracuse). Scott Walker (March 1, 1995 and March 23, 1996), Josh Holden (January 15, 2000 and January 25, 2000) and Tyson Nash (October 20, 1996 and April 10, 1998) are the only other Syracuse players to attempt two penalty shots.
SHORT-HANDED SUCCESS: Both of Syracuse’s two-goals in Sunday’s 4-2 loss to the Rochester Americans came with the team short-handed (Mathieu Darche & Mike Pandolfo), giving the Crunch 18 this season, one behind league leading Chicago (19).
