Crunch Beat Binghamton in Third Annual Shapiro Motor Sales of Oswego Classic

Syracuse, NY, (Friday, September 25, 2009)

Oswego, NY (September 25, 2009) – The Syracuse Crunch defeated the Binghamton Senators tonight, 3-1, in front of 1,612 fans at the Oswego State Campus Center Ice Arena.

The first period was fast-paced and physical as the Crunch came out firing on Binghamton starter Andy Chiodo.  Syracuse had the early chances, but a slew of penalties towards the end of the period swung some momentum back in Binghamton’s favor.  The Crunch outshot the B-Sens 12-9 in the frame.

It didn’t take long for the Crunch to strike in the second when Chris Higgins opened the scoring just 2:07 into the stanza.  Higgins snuck behind the defense and took a lead pass from Tyler Murovich.  The Boston University product moved in, deked to his forehand and snuck the puck between Chiodo’s pads for the 1-0 Crunch lead.

Binghamton struck back to tie the game just three and a half minutes later when Josh Keller found the rebound of a shot in front and ripped it past Crunch starter Dan Taylor.

Less than five minutes after Binghamton knotted the game, Kevin Harvey went to the slot and found the puck after it popped to the middle on a turnover.  Harvey found the disk and ripped it off the right post and in to make it 2-1 Syracuse.

The score stayed that way until the 7:44 mark of the third period when Jon Mirasty re-directed a Kevin Roeder point shot past Chris Holt to give the Crunch a 3-1 lead.

Taylor turned aside 25 of 26 shots in the win.
