Columbus Re-Signs Defenseman Jonathan Sigalet

Syracuse, NY, (Friday, July 10, 2009)

Syracuse, NY (July 10, 2009) – The Syracuse Crunch announced today that the Columbus Blue Jackets have re-signed defenseman Jonathan Sigalet to a two year, two-way NHL-American Hockey League contract.  As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Sigalet, 23, appeared in 19 games with the Crunch last season, notching five goals, six assists and 16 penalty minutes before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury on November 28 vs. Toronto.

At the time of his injury, Sigalet was tied for twelfth in the AHL in scoring among defensemen and ranked fourth among all blueliners in plus-minus with a plus-13 rating.  He was also tied for fifth on the Crunch in scoring and led the club in plus-minus.

In 218 combined AHL games with Providence and Syracuse, Sigalet has accumulated 26 goals, 66 assists and 170 penalty minutes.  He has also skated in 16 Calder Cup Playoff games with Providence, collecting two goals, four assists and 21 penalty minutes.

Prior to turning pro, Sigalet spent two seasons with Bowling Green (CCHA) from 2003-05, tallying six goals, 25 assists and 62 penalty minutes.

A native of Vancouver, British Columbia, Sigalet was acquired in a trade by Columbus from Boston in exchange for the rights to left wing Matt Marquardt on May 27, 2008.  He was originally drafted by Boston in the fourth round, 100th overall, in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.

Season tickets for the 2009-10 season are now on sale and can be purchased by calling the Crunch office at (315) 473- 4444 or by stopping by the Crunch office in the War Memorial at Oncenter, located at 800 South State Street in downtown Syracuse.
