Derek Dorsett Tallies First NHL Goal

Syracuse, NY, (Tuesday, October 21, 2008)
Syracuse, NY (October 22, 2008) – Former Syracuse Crunch right wing Derek Dorsett tallied his first NHL goal last night, and his marker proved to be the game-winner in a 4-2 win for Columbus over Vancouver at Nationwide Arena.

Dorsett’s goal came at the 14:23 mark of the second period, as he barreled his way to a rebound in front of Vancouver starter Roberto Luongo and buried the puck past him for a 3-1 lead that the Blue Jackets never relinquished.

Dorsett, 21, appeared in 64 games for the Crunch last season, registering 10 goals, 8 assists and 289 penalty minutes. A native of Kindersley, Saskatchewan, Dorsett was drafted by Columbus in the seventh round, 189th overall, in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

Jason Chimera, Kristian Huselius and Rick Nash also scored for the Jackets, who moved to 3-3-0-0 on the season and 2-0-0-0 on home ice.

Another former Crunch member, Pascal Leclaire, had 24 saves, including a post-to-post right pad save, robbing Steve Bernier 3:39 into the third period.
